The struggles of Abraham and Sarah are reflective of those which Christians world-wide face in their journeys to mature their faith. Each individual’s challenges are specific to him or her, but every person has a faith-growing cycle. It took Abraham a quarter of a century to learn to trust God enough that he would do what God told him without question instead of coming up with his personal plan to “help God.” From Abraham, we learn how spiritual growth is stunted by sin and how we bring crises upon ourselves by refusing to follow the Word of God. Artifacts from diggings from Abraham’s birthplace, Ur, reveal the pagan, idol-worshipping family and culture in which he was reared and from which God told him to leave.
